According to Suetonius, the name was used by the Claudii family because, in the Sabine language, it meant \"strong\" (\"fortis\") and \"valiant\" (\"strēnuus\"). It is possible that the term was borrowed from Sabine nero, although the Sabine term may be fictitious.",
